Dear West High Parents,
In an effort to help students retain key information from each mathematics course, the math department will be implementing a new program called the Summer Skill Set. The Summer Skill Set will highlight several key skills that a student should have mastered after leaving a particular course with the goal of keeping the student’s mathematical mind sharp and reducing the amount of initial review time at the beginning of the following school year.
In an effort to reduce paper consumption and to make the Summer Skill Sets available to everyone, the Summer Skill Sets and the corresponding answer keys will be available for download in the column to the right. Each student should select the Summer Skill Set for the class that he or she has been enrolled in for the 2013-2014 school year. In the case where a link is not yet active, please check back soon as we are still updating a few Summer Skill Sets.
It will be an expectation that the items from the Summer Skill Set will be mastered. Each student will be assessed over those items within the first week or two of the new school year. While the students will not receive a grade for the Summer Skill Set, they will be provided an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the topics for the Summer Skill Set before they are tested. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me via phone or email.
