The college search process can be a challenge. The following checklist can help keep you on the right track throughout your college search.

Continue rigorous college prep curriculum.

Retake the ACT (or SAT if you wish).

Visit with college representatives as they visit at South High. (See link to a listing on this site.)

Apply to colleges in the fall. Apply online.

Consult your counselor and follow South's procedure for sending application, fee, transcript, ACT/SAT scores, essay, recommendation letters.

Follow up to make sure all materials arrive at the college.

Continue visiting colleges, and if you like what you see, visit again. Contact the admissions dept. to set up an overnight visit, if you'd like.

Investigate scholarships that may be available at your colleges.

Complete the FAFSA form (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) in January or February. See link on this site for more information.

Look for private/local scholarships in the College and Career Center (see link on this site) or at websites (see listing on this site).

Select your college by May 1.

Send necessary deposit and find out about housing.

Notify schools you did not select.
