....From Dr. Aitch

Dear South High Families,

School is off and running and we are settling into a strong pace.  Already, a number of student accomplishments have been reached, each serving as supporting evidence of meeting our mission of forming capable, curious, and confident students.  Congratulations are extended to South High’s four National Merit Semi-Finalists:
Brian Cheng, Katherine Estep, Hannah Kloppenburg, and Duncan Scanlon; our six National Merit Commended Students: Timothy Bain, Rachel Cheung, Austin Flick, Samuel Rudnick, Jessica Wallace, and Rachel Wipfler; and our National Achievement Outstanding Participant: Margarette Prospere.  The results of their achievements are testament to their perseverance, diligent work, and to the support of our outstanding community.

Though we still have a way to run before reaching our first break, a very important community “water stop” is upon us - Homecoming 2013.  Homecoming is always warmly anticipated, and affords enjoyable activities and opportunities to catch up with alumni and old friends.  Equally important is the opportunity for the entire South High community to connect with each other and cheer on the outstanding youth who actively carry the Patriot name.  We invite you to find time to attend our Friday homecoming festivities.  New to homecoming this year is the PSH Festival which will take place on Friday, October 18, 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM.  A number of festival booths and inflatable games will be run by various high school, middle school, and elementary school organizations.  In addition, there is a scheduled South Area Kickball Competition featuring students and staff:  Wren Hanna vs Barretts at 4:30 PM and South Middle vs Southwest Middle at 5:30 PM.  This year’s festival will replace the parade and if there is bad weather we will move the festival indoors.

Unfortunately, not all sporting events and activities could be scheduled at home on Friday, but I urge all alumni and community members to reconnect with PSH sports and activities during homecoming week.  Our students, coaches, and sponsors are hard workers and do a fine job of representing the Patriot banner.

On another note, last year at this time, I informed you that the look of our webpage would be changing.  As we move forward in using the website to its full capacity, I need to inform you that this will be the last newsletter published in this format. Future correspondence from me will be in the shape of more frequent “news blasts.”  In addition, South High news, updates, and information will be noted on the front page of the website with appropriate links to detailed information.  If you have questions about posting on the website, please call 314-415-7700 and you will be directed to the appropriate resource.

With Patriot Pride,
