Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year!  I'm excited to experience this year with our new sixth graders!  English Language Arts (ELA) appears on schedules and grade reports as "Reading" and "Writing."  This means that, while all students have ELA for two consecutive periods in my classroom, each student will receive two separate grades.  This is great because it helps us to really focus on achievement in the areas of reading AND writing!

We will have some nightly homework, but many of our projects in ELA are ongoing.  This means that it is very important for students to bring all supplies to class!  In addition to extra supplies/projects, students are expected to have the following in Comm. Arts class every day:

- a novel (All students participate in sustained silent reading every day.  There will be ongoing projects to keep all readers accountable.  As such, it is essential that students bring their current choice novel to class.)

- a small three-ring binder (This is our ELA handbook)

- writing utensils (at LEAST one pen and pencil at all times)

- composition notebook

If you ever have any questions, please don't hesitate to email or call!
