Subcommitte 2/B/4 Essential Question:
What structures are in place to support student/teacher relationships and what is in place to measure their effectiveness?

9/28/2009: What data will be collected to reveal current reality?

2 B 4 will be looking at data collected from Climate surveys from the 2001-2008 school year. We are also considering looking at a climate survey for parents and a potential survey to teachers if it fits the needs of our sub committee.

3/1/2010: Key Findings

A. Positive Observations Revealed by the Data
  • 60% of Elementary and over 50% of secondary students feel that Parkway schools are doing a good job by giving students the opportunity to build relationships with teachers.
  • Students feel that the schools offer a large array of opportunities through before school and after school activities.
  • Parents in general feel that they know how to access these before and after school opportunities for their children.
B. Identified Needs
  • Parents feel that clear communication from the district, school, and staff members would be beneficial. Streamline communication from all schools. (Have the formats consistent from building to building; communicate through fewer mediums and formats.)
  • Parents are requesting individual teachers communicate more with individual students (1on1).
  • Parents are requesting that more opportunities be available to the children in the district.
  • Parents are requesting that the students have more opportunities for community service projects.
  • Parents feel that the staff needs to do a better job in identifying students with a disconnect to the building and the district.
