  1. I'm worried that there is no mention of health (mental, physical, emotional) in the vision part.

  2. Drop the word "curious" from the Mission Statement. This is redundant - if students truly learn, they have curiousity although they may not be aware of that curiousity. Stating that Parkway students are "capable and confident" learners is all that needs to be said.

  3. You cannot use the word ensure as it is not prudent nor factual. How about- The Parkway School District serves the community by offering a wide array of choices in academics, arts, athletics and activities. These offerings provide the student an opportunity to connect and explore as they prepare for a life that is both meaningful and productive.

  4. Is curiosity a teachable concept? Can you make someone curious or are they already curious or not? I think a better goal would be to create a capable, open-minded,and confident learner rather than capable, curious, and confident learner. In today's world being open-minded to people of all cultures and religions is vital to peace in our own country as well as world peace. Teaching can open one's mind like nothing else can especially if it was preciously closed at home. To create open-minded learners capable of accepting differences would be a much loftier mission.

  5. Mission Statement: Replace "ensure" with "create" because it give Parkway more ownership of the results; Add "lifelong" to the kind of learners Parkway strives to create.

Vision: Under bullet point 8, add "be tolerant" of the views, values and cultures of others

Learning Principles: Bullet point 1, add "know that teachers care and respect" as well as believe. Expand on Bullet point 4 about personal meaning and relevance to emphasize understanding the value of education to success beyond the classroom.

    Vision: under bullet point

  6. I don't think we can guarantee (ensure) these things. We can provide the opportunities for our student to become thoughtful, capable and confident learners.

  7. Both the Mission Statement and the Vision are excellent: each covers a wide range of issues with specific, achievable goals. Draft 5 is the first draft I've read; I'm very impressed. I look forward to Parkway executing this Mission and Vision.

  8. I think the mission statement should include the word "all" in the part that says "to ensure students." I think we have to constantly remind ourselves that our student population is diverse.

I also think there should be mention in the "vision" about how important it is for a student to connect with at least one adult at their school. Relationships with adults help children learn. If a student feels someone cares about them at school and feels connected to the school, learning increases.

  9. Suggest changing the last section of the mission to something more positive/demanding than just simply "responding" to challenges. Also add something about integrity such as:

The mission of the Parkway School District is to ensure our students are capable, curious and confident learners who are well equiped to achieve their dreams, succeed with integrity and meet the challenges of an ever-changing world.

  10. Change "are" to "become", "learners" to "citizens". Delete "to understand and respond" The overall statement needs to be more concise:

The mission of the Parkway School District is to ensure students become capable, curious and confident citizens who are well equipped to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world.
