Location:

Central High

Committee Members:

Laura Dorris

Sue Harbstreet

Kevin Mabie

Jeremy Mitchell

Donna Volk

Agenda Items

1. Group norms and committee focus were reviewed. We are reviewing:

"What are our district policies and practices that ensure diverse perspectives and representation within our school community?"

2. The group used a Board Docs summary (prepared by Jeremy Mitchell) to review current Parkway policies regarding diverse perspectives and representation.

3. The committee decided that board policies were exemplary, but practices were unclear.

Actions Taken

1. The committee decided to ask the following question to each building:

What practices, events, lessons, or clubs represent or encourage diversity and awareness in your building?

2. The committee decided that the question would be asked to each building principal, as well as a staff member, counselor, and student at each building.

3. We agreed that Donna would contact Oak Brook, Sorrento, Wren, Hannah, Barretts, and Carmen Trails.

4. We agreed that Laura would contact Riverben, Green Trails, Craig, and Ross.

5. We agreed that Jeremy Mitchell would contact middle schools.

6. We agreed that Kevin Mabie would contact high schools.

7. We agreed to conduct the survey via email.

8. We agreed the email could like this:

Hello PRINCIPAL,
My Project Parkway Subcommittee is focusing on district policies and practices designed to ensure diverse representation in our school community. We believe there may already be a lot of wonderful practices going on in our buildings. When you have a moment, can you please answer the following question:
What practices, events, lessons, or clubs represent or encourage diversity and awareness in your building?

Summary

After reviewing current policies, the committee deemed it necessary to survey schools to determine practices before any input could be contributed from our group.
