Parkway's Alternative Credit Experience
PACE is a semester long program for high school students. PACE is designed to help students identify and change behaviors that have prevented them from being successful at their home school. Behavior change is supported through the implementation of a levels system. There are high expectations at PACE for students to succeed.
PACE provides instruction in Math, Science, English, Social Studies, PE/Health, Art, Reading and Personal Finance. Counseling and Special Education support are provided, as needed.
There are 50 students enrolled in PACE per semester. Most PACE students are recommended by their grade level principal after a conversation with both the student and parent/guardian. Some students at PACE are assigned by the Superintendent and others may be serving a suspension.
The hours for the PACE program are 8:00 a.m. - 2:35 p.m. and follows the same calendar as all other Parkway High Schools.
HEALTH SERVICES - A full-time nurse is on staff to monitor medication and provide support for all health issues.
TRANSPORTATION - Bus transportation is available for all students in the PACE program.
FOOD SERVICE - Breakfast and lunch are available through Parkway Food Service. Students use the same pin number they use at their home school.
General Information:
The Missouri Options program, sponsored through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, is for students, ages 17 and older, who are at least one full year of credit behind their class (a full year is defined as 6 credits behind where the particular student should be in order to graduate on time - ex: a student starting senior year should have 18 credits to be on track to graduate, and therefore should have 12 or fewer credits to be eligible for Missouri Options). The Missouri Options program provides students at risk of not graduating or dropping out an alternative opportunity to earn a Parkway School District diploma. Once a student decides to enroll in Missouri Options, the student forfeits his or her opportunity to re-enroll in any other Parkway school or program. The program is not intended as an avenue for early graduation, nor is it an ideal match for students currently in their junior year. For the purposes of this program, high school status is determined by the year the student started kindergarten. Each student interested in the Missouri Options program will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
The Missouri Options program provides an opportunity for these students to earn a Parkway School District diploma by meeting the following requirements:
General Information:
The Alternative Discipline Center (ADC) provides an opportunity for middle and high school students suspended out of school to remain current with their school work in a quiet, supportive setting. While attending ADC, students will be working with certified teachers that are in constant communication with all 10 Parkway middle and high schools. Once a student chooses to attend ADC, his or her assigned Case Manager will request work from each of that student’s teachers. While the intent is to support students during their suspensions, the ADC staff maintains the same academic and behavioral expectations as all other Parkway schools. Students unable to agree to uphold these expectations may forfeit their opportunity to attend ADC.
Besides the daily academic support, students may also take advantage of the opportunity to reflect on the reason behind their suspensions, and build skills which will enable them to make better choices in the future.
Students suspended for 10 days or longer may be eligible to attend ADC. If a student is suspended longer than 30 days, the option to attend ADC will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Daily Schedule:
The classroom hours for the ADC program are 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Attendance is recorded as if the students are attending their home schools.
Food:
Breakfast and lunch are available to ADC students on a daily basis. Students can utilize accounts and pin numbers to purchase food.
