Missouri Options (MoP)
Program Overview

General Information:
The Missouri Options program, sponsored through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, is for students, ages 17 and older, who are at least one full year of credit behind their class (a full year is defined as 6 credits behind where the particular student should be in order to graduate on time - ex: a student starting senior year should have 18 credits to be on track to graduate, and therefore should have 12 or fewer credits to be eligible for Missouri Options). The Missouri Options program provides students at risk of not graduating or dropping out an alternative opportunity to earn a Parkway School District diploma. Once a student decides to enroll in Missouri Options, the student forfeits his or her opportunity to re-enroll in any other Parkway school or program. The program is not intended as an avenue for early graduation, nor is it an ideal match for students currently in their junior year. For the purposes of this program, high school status is determined by the year the student started kindergarten. Each student interested in the Missouri Options program will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

The Missouri Options program provides an opportunity for these students to earn a Parkway School District diploma by meeting the following requirements:

  • Attend class 15 hours per week

  • Provide documentation of either working or doing community service 15 hours per week (students will have full-time status if they meet the 30 hour per week requirement)

  • Pass a Government course

  • Pass the U.S. and MO Constitution exams

  • Pass the GED test

Approximately ten students from all five Parkway high schools are enrolled in the program at one time. As one student completes the program, another student will be enrolled.

Daily Schedule:
The classroom hours for the Missouri Options program are 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Transportation:
Resident students are responsible for their own transportation. The Voluntary Interdistrict Choice Corporation (VICC) provides transportation for students residing in the City of St. Louis. Please discuss any transportation issues with Missouri Options' staff.

Food:
Breakfast and lunch are available to Missouri Options students on a daily basis. Students can utilize accounts and pin numbers to purchase food.

Graduation & Diploma:
Students who complete all components of the Missouri Options program will be considered Parkway School District graduates. They will receive a Parkway School District diploma (not from a specific high school), and will be eligible to participate in the graduation ceremony at Fern Ridge High School.

Student Transcripts:
A student’s transcripts will be modified after joining and completing the Missouri Options program. The student's previous academic history will be documented in the same way; however, the student's overall GPA will be replaced with the student's GED scores.

Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Link:
The Missouri Options program follows the guidelines of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. More information on the program can be found at the following website: http://dese.mo.gov/divcareered/Missouri_option.htm

Alternative Discipline Center (ADC)

General Information:
The Alternative Discipline Center (ADC) provides an opportunity for middle and high school students suspended out of school to remain current with their school work in a quiet, supportive setting. While attending ADC, students will be working with certified teachers that are in constant communication with all 10 Parkway middle and high schools. Once a student chooses to attend ADC, his or her assigned Case Manager will request work from each of that student’s teachers. While the intent is to support students during their suspensions, the ADC staff maintains the same academic and behavioral expectations as all other Parkway schools. Students unable to agree to uphold these expectations may forfeit their opportunity to attend ADC.

Besides the daily academic support, students may also take advantage of the opportunity to reflect on the reason behind their suspensions, and build skills which will enable them to make better choices in the future.

Students suspended for 10 days or longer may be eligible to attend ADC. If a student is suspended longer than 30 days, the option to attend ADC will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Daily Schedule:
The classroom hours for the ADC program are 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Attendance is recorded as if the students are attending their home schools.

Food:
Breakfast and lunch are available to ADC students on a daily basis. Students can utilize accounts and pin numbers to purchase food.
