Nurse Resources

Medications:

Medication should be turned in to the nurse, in the morning, before school starts.  Students are not allowed to carry any medication on them except for an asthma inhaler.  If a student chooses to carry an asthma inhaler with him/her, it is recommended that a back-up inhaler be available in the nurse's office.  The Permission for Student to Self-Administer Medication by Metered Dose Inhaler form should be signed by the parent/guardian and given to the nurse's office before the student can carry the inhaler.  Please mark the inhaler with the student's name.

If your child has a medical diagnosis requiring medication during school hours, contact the nurse prior to the start of school.  All medications, both prescription and over-the-counter, require written request from the parent, and either a written physician's order or pharmacy prescription label.  Download the Request for Medication form here. Medications should be delivered to the school by an adult, not the student.

District Policy for Administration of Medications.

Immunizations:  All students must meet the minimum requirements set by Missouri law in order to attend school.  This includes hepatitis B immunization [series of 3 shots], as well as the standard childhood diphtheria/tetanus/pertussis, polio, and measles/mumps/rubella series.  Many students become "due" for a tetanus booster shot while in middle school.   This shot is due six to ten years after the completion of the usual preschool immunizations.  If you have any doubt regarding your student's status, please clarify this information with your pediatrician or clinic prior to the start of school.

State law requires that any student NOT in immunization compliance must be excluded from school.   This is not a policy the school nurse or principal can choose to disregard.  The student will be sent home until the parent/guardian provides documentation of immunization.  If your student is eligible for medical or religious exemptions from the law, please contact the nurse well in advance of the first day of school.
