Updated Electronic Device Policy for NEMS (2012-2013)

At Northeast Middle School, our goal is to maintain a respectful and productive learning environment at all times, therefore the use of electronics during class time is only supported when permitted by the teacher when it is part of the instructional process.

Students may use their electronic devices before school until 8:10 am, during lunch periods, and after the final bell of the school day as long as they do not create a disruption and/or distraction. Students are also responsible for the security of their electronic devices.

Electronic devices being used inappropriately or at inappropriate times will be confiscated by staff members.

Some examples of inappropriate student use of electronic devices are:

  • Using the electronic device during passing time or during class when not a part of the instructional process
  • Texting and Playing Games*
  • Making and/or Taking a Call*
  • Taking Photos

*As long as students are not creating a disruption or distraction, these are not considered inappropriate if done during the times permitted (e.g., before school until 8:15 am, during lunch periods, and after the final bell of the school day.)
