Tardy Unexcused--Late Arrival to School (TULA)

  • Student arrives to the school building any time after the 8:15 bell and is late to class because of this late arrival to school
  • Student signs in at the Visitor Check-in area of Student Services and is issued a pass noting the tardiness is Late Arrival and Unexcused
  • Applies to oversleeping, traffic concerns, and all other reasons for tardiness except those reasons listed as excused below
  • Collects the pass and does not mark the student tardy in Infinite Campus  (This will be handled by the office)
  • Initiates parent contact for repeated tardiness*

Tardy Excused--Late Arrival to School (TELA)

  • Student arrives to the school building any time after the 8:15 bell and is late to class because of this late arrival to school
  • Student signs in at the Visitor Check-in area of Student Services and is issued a pass noting the tardiness is Late Arrival and Excused
  • Only applies when a parent signs-in student, calls, or sends note because of medical appointments, student illness or other excused absences including religious holidays, bereavement, and educational reasons
  • Collects the pass and does not mark the student tardy in Infinite Campus  (This will be handled by the office)

 

Tardy Unexcused
(TUN)

  • Student is not inside the classroom or designated learning area at the time the bell rings and does not have a pass
  • Can apply to first period tardiness if a student was in the building but did not arrive in class on time.  This will be indicated by the student arriving without an office pass
  • Additional parameters (i.e. in seat) are not included in the school tardy policy and should be addressed through normal classroom discipline procedures
  • Marks student tardy in Infinite Campus
  • Provides a warning to student that this tardy or future tardiness may result in consequences
  • Briefly discusses reasons for tardiness and problem solves with student
  • Initiates parent contact for repeated tardiness*

Tardy Excused

  • Student enters class late with a pass from school personnel
  • This does not apply to late arrivals to school and pass will not be marked late arrival
  • Collects the pass and does not mark the student tardy in Infinite Campus
  • If applicable, changes Infinite Campus record to Present

Truant

  • Student arrives late or stays out of class for five minutes or more without permission
  • Immediately contacts office to report student missing
  • Later writes an administrative referral and contacts parents

Absent

  • Student is not present for the entire class period
  • Marks student absent in Infinite Campus

*If a student is repeatedly tardy unexcused (TUN or TULA) to the same teacher’s class, that classroom teacher should contact the parent individually in addition to the parent contact that occurs in the procedures below.  Repeated tardiness is defined as three or more incidents of unexcused tardiness within a three week period or when a pattern of tardiness is observed by the teacher.

Subsequent Offenses

  • Student accepts consequences
  • Parent discusses tardiness with child and/or works to help child arrive at school on time.
  • Assigns consequences as appropriate
  • Initiates parent contact and/or conferences as appropriate

  • Serves a lunch or after school detention
  • Discusses tardiness with child
  • Notifies parent via email
  • Conferences with student
  • Assigns a lunch or after school detention
  • Contacts parent

Subsequent Offenses

  • Serves a lunch or after school detention
  • Attends meeting
  • Assigns a lunch or after school detention
  • Convenes meeting with student, parent, counselor, and administrator, and a contract is created.

**Tardy policy applies collectively to all classes in a student’s schedule and is cumulative within each trimester.  For example, on the same day or on different days within a trimester, a tardy to math would be the first offense, and a tardy to science would be the second offense.
