Students at all grade levels participate in General Music classes at Mason Ridge. Emphasis is placed on: finding the singing voice; improving vocal production; and active music-making vocally, instrumentally and kinesthetically.

All children are given the opportunity for ensemble playing through the use of barred and percussion instruments. Note reading skills are reinforced through recorder playing beginning in third grade. Fourth and fifth grade students are selected through auditions to participate in Honors Choir and the All-District Choral Concert.

In addition to music fundamentals, appreciation for all types of music and knowledge of composers and their styles are also taught. To further this appreciation and knowledge, each grade level attends various performances that will expose students to diverse musical experiences-- thanks to funding by the Mason Ridge PTO. The PTO Music Awareness Committee also stages Mason Ridge Live, a yearly talent-sharing extravaganza. Grade level assemblies and student performances are scheduled in collaboration with classroom teachers.
