Parkway Board selects interim superintendent

The Parkway School Board has selected Dr. Don Senti as interim superintendent beginning July 1, 2010.  Senti will replace Dr. Robert Malito who is retiring June 30 after six years as superintendent.
Senti, 65, has served as superintendent of the Clayton School District for the past 15 years and recently announced his intention to retire.  With this new interim appointment, Senti will delay retirement for another year as Parkway conducts a search for its next superintendent.
Prior to serving as Clayton’s superintendent, Senti served the Parkway School District for 25 years including seven years as superintendent from 1988 to 1995.  He holds a doctorate and an educational specialist degree from St. Louis University, as well as master’s and bachelor’s degrees from the University of Kansas.
“Don will be a tremendous asset to Parkway during this transitional year,” said Board of Education President Bruce Major. “He knows the Parkway community, is passionate about student success and is highly regarded as a superb educational leader.  We are fortunate to have him on board in Parkway again.”
“Parkway has a very special place in my heart and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to return as superintendent next year,” said Senti.  “I worked as an administrator in Parkway for 25 years before going to Clayton.  It’s really exciting to be able to come back to help a district, where I spent so much of my career, through this transition.  I’m looking forward to doing my part as the board searches for Parkway’s next superintendent.”
Senti began his career in 1966 as a middle school English and social studies teacher in Olathe, Kansas before coming to Parkway in 1970 where he served as a teacher and an administrator at all levels including assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent and finally superintendent.  Senti has accepted a one-year appointment beginning July 1, 2010 for $229,528 in salary per year.
In the coming weeks, the school board will announce their plan to select a permanent superintendent, including a process and timeline.
Parkway is St. Louis County’s third largest school district with an enrollment of 17,500 students in an area covering 68 square miles including all or parts of Ballwin, Chesterfield, Creve Coeur, Des Peres, Manchester, Maryland Heights, Town and Country and Valley Park.
