Awards and recognition for the central area music department

At the end of January, three central area music ensembles took the stage at the 2012 Missouri Music Educator's Conference in Osage Beach, Missouri.  The Central High symphonic orchestra, directed by Winifred Crock and Susan Hampton, the Central Middle honors orchestra, directed by Joe Bradley, and the Central Middle 8th grade band, directed by Paul Holzen and Jeff Pottinger were selected through very competitive state auditioning to perform for the music educators.  To have three ensembles from one school district is quite a distinction and to have all three ensembles representing the central area of the district is unique and perhaps a first for us.  A middle school band had never been selected from Parkway before and so this was a big achievement.  We are proud of those students and directors!

In addition, Winifred Crock, Central High orchestra director, was recently awarded the 2012 Missouri American String Association’s Secondary Teacher of the Year award and three of her orchestra students, Matthew Sprague, Christopher Wang and Benjamin Park, earned the honor to perform in the 120 member American String Teacher Association’s National High School Honors Orchestra in Atlanta, Georgia in March, 2012.

This has been an excellent year for the Central Area music department.  Congratulations!
