Parkway Social Worker Wins Two Prestigious Awards

Dot Kontak, who has served the Parkway School District for more than 17 years as a district social worker, was recently named 2008 Missouri School Social Worker of the Year by the School Social Workers Association of Missouri.  In addition, Kontak who has her master's degree in social work and is a licensed clinical social worker, was honored with the School Social Work Lifetime Career Achievement Award.  This is a very special award presented to honor those select few who go beyond the norm to help others, support their schools, empower students and who also promote school social work locally, statewide and nationally as a way to enhance the education and development of all students.

Kontak is a social worker at Central High School as well a several elementary schools in the central area.  Some of the innumerable services she provides include: consultation, direct service, crisis intervention, informal assessment, referrals to outside resources, collaboration with outside agencies and classroom intervention strategies for students kindergarten through high school.
