Keith Marty selected as next superintendent of Parkway School District

The Parkway Board of Education announced today they have selected Dr. Keith Marty as the district’s next superintendent beginning July 1, 2011.  Dr. Marty will succeed Dr. Don Senti, who has served as interim superintendent since June 30, 2010, when Superintendent Robert Malito retired.

Marty has served as superintendent of the 4,500-student Menomonee Falls School District in suburban Milwaukee for the past 10 years.  Prior to that, he was the assistant superintendent at Menomonee Falls from 1989 to 2001. Marty holds a doctorate in education from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, as well as a master of science in administrative leadership from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a bachelor of science in secondary education from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse.

“Dr. Marty will be a tremendous leader for Parkway,” said Board of Education President Bruce Major.  “The board is grateful to all the parents, staff and community members who helped us in this process. We took great care to select someone who will be the right fit for Parkway and we are extremely pleased to announce Keith as our next superintendent.”

“Parkway is an outstanding school district that is similar in many ways to the school districts where I’ve worked,” said Marty.  “The community values education and sets high standards for results. I look forward to the many challenges and opportunities ahead as we work together to help all our students be successful in school and, more importantly, in their careers and lifetime pursuits.

Marty began his educational career in 1976 as a social studies teacher, coach and later as assistant principal at Plymouth High School in Plymouth, Wis.  Prior to coming to Menomonee Falls, Marty also served as a high school principal and director of curriculum and instruction in Sheboygan Falls, Wis.

Marty has accepted a three-year contract beginning July 1, 2011 with a starting salary of $220,000 per year.

Marty’s selection as superintendent comes after an extensive national search directed by School Exec Connect to find the next leader of the Parkway School District.  The school board used input from hundreds of parents, community members and employees to develop a leadership profile which served as the foundation to screen initial candidates.  A confidential committee of parents, teachers, staff and administrators conducted interviews with finalists in December and January, and provided written feedback to the school board.  The board used that feedback to select Dr. Marty.

Originally from Monticello, Wis., Marty and his wife Diana have four adult children, three of whom are serving as officers in the U.S. military and the other is in college studying nursing.

Parkway is St. Louis County’s third largest school district with an enrollment of 17,500 students in an area covering 68 square miles including all or parts of Ballwin, Chesterfield, Creve Coeur, Des Peres, Manchester, Maryland Heights, Town and Country and Valley Park.
