Parkway South Student Qualifies as National Achievement Semifinalist

Andrew McCall of Parkway South High School recently qualified as a National Achievement Semifinalist in the 42nd annual National Achievement Scholarship Program. Approximately 1,600 scholastically talented Black American high school seniors across the country qualified for this program. These students now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for approximately 800 Achievement Scholarship awards, worth some $2.5 million, that will be offered next spring for college and undergraduate study. The National Achievement Program, conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corporation, is a privately financed activity that operates without government assistance. The program was initiated in 1964 to honor academically able black youth throughout the nation and provide scholarships to a substantial number of the most outstanding participants in each annual program. In the 42 annual competitions completed to date, more than 26,000 Black American students have received Achievement Scholarship awards worth more than $83.5 million.
