Student legislative forum a big success

Nearly 300 Parkway high school students, staff and elected officials attended the third annual Parkway Student Legislative Forum held at South High on September 2.

The forum, co-sponsored by Kids Voting Missouri, offered a variety of activities for students including voter registration, demonstration of electronic voting equipment and a mock election.  Students voted on four issues, including whether teachers' salaries should be tied to student test scores and whether sending text messages while driving should be banned for all Missouri drivers.

State Representative John J. Diehl, Jr. delivered a keynote address to students about the importance of being an educated and involved citizen/voter. Students then talked one-on-one with elected officials in lively roundtable discussions and the evening concluded with some Q & A.  Click on the box below to view a short video of the event.
