Best of Parkway's Young Artists on Display

On May 7 and 8, Greensfelder Recreation Center at Queeny Park will be taken over by the artistic talents of Parkway students. Hundreds of pieces of art will be on display at the Parkway All-District Art Show, which is free and open to the public. The show will include works in ceramics, photography, painting, drawing, and weaving. Each of Parkway's 29 schools will be represented, and the artists will range in age from the youngest elementary school students to high school seniors. Each piece that will be displayed was chosen for the show by that school's art teacher. Parkway’s visual arts program is rated highly throughout the state for its outstanding quality and its art students are often highly accomplished. "Art classes in Parkway foster growth in creative self-expression, aesthetic awareness, observational skills, and innovative thinking," said Sandy Collins, coordinator of fine arts education. "Individual imagination and creativity is encouraged." The Parkway School District Art Show will take place from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 8.
