Parkway High School Students to Hold Legislative Event Sept 5

The Parkway social studies department, in partnership with Kids Voting Missouri, will hold the first ever Parkway student-led legislative forum on Wednesday, September 5. Parkway high school students are helping plan and staff the event.
Missouri officials serving on the panel include: Senator Joan Bray, Senator Michael Gibbons, Representative Rick Stream, and Representative Sam Page.
The purpose of the forum is to provide high school students, parents, and other district patrons a chance to engage in a face-to-face dialogue with our state legislators and other elected officials about relevant and important issues as we head into the 2008 election year.
The evening will begin with a panel of elected officials and discussion moderated by South High senior, Josh Travis, who was recently elected Governor of The American Legion Boys State of Missouri. The panel will be followed by round-table discussions to include other invited U.S., state and local elected officials.
“Parkway is proud to have so many talented and passionate young people involved in civics and government. They will bring a fresh perspective and high energy to this groundbreaking event,” said Parkway Superintendent Robert Malito.
The forum is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5, at Parkway Central High School, 369 N. Woods Mill Road. Doors will open at 6 p.m. for a student activity fair. Students can also register to vote from 6-6:45 p.m.
