Two Parkway students receive State Citizenship Award

Two Parkway high school students were honored by the State Board of Education and the Missouri Bar as recipients of the 2011 Outstanding Achievement in Citizenship Award.

This award has been presented annually since 1990. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education conducts the program with assistance and financial support from the Bar. Honorees are recognized during a luncheon at the Governor’s Mansion in Jefferson City. Each student receives a plaque and a $50 savings bond.

The 2011 recipients are:

  • Caroline Levens, Central High
  • Jennifer Mahan, South High

Every public high school is eligible to nominate one senior for the citizenship award. Students are selected on the basis of their academic achievement in civics and government courses, performance in civics and government-related extracurricular activities, and exemplary community service. Students also must submit an essay about the importance of citizenship.
