Parkway teachers earn National Board Certification

Three Parkway teachers recently completed the rigorous requirements to be named National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT).  Congratulations to Patty Furlong, Pierremont; Ruth Knop, West High; and Stacy Stibal, Central Middle.

Patty Furlong (left) is a physical education teacher at Pierremont Elementary and is certified in early to middle childhood physical education.

Ruth Knop (right), West High math teacher, received her certification in adolescent and young adulthood mathematics.

Of special interest is the fact that Stacy Stibal (below left), who teaches English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) at Central Middle School, is the first teacher in Missouri to be certified in early adolescent to young adulthood English as a New Language.

To achieve this prestigious certification, these teachers had to meet rigorous standards through intensive study, expert evaluation, self-assessment and peer review.  To get more details about the process from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, click here.
