Information for Parkway Parents Regarding the Recent Earthquake

In light of the recent earthquake and subsequent aftershocks, we want to reassure parents that Parkway’s schools are safe and the procedures students practice during the year are being followed.
Prior to school on the day of the earthquake, Parkway’s facilities staff checked each building and reported that none had sustained any structural damage.  We continued to closely monitor all schools in the days after the quake, particularly due to the aftershocks.
According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), aftershocks are a natural occurrence and should be expected after a sizable earthquake.  Most of these secondary shockwaves will be less intense than the initial earthquake.  For more information visit the FEMA Web site at http://www.fema.gov/hazard/earthquake/eq_after.shtm or the National Earthquake Information Center at http://earthquake.usgs.gov/.
Please remind your child that Parkway’s schools are safe. This is also a good time to review your family’s safety plan for earthquakes and other natural disasters.  For tips, please visit the American Red Cross Web site at http://www.redcross.org/services/disaster/0,1082,0_583_,00.html.
The safety of our students and staff is our top priority.
