'Project Parkway' gets underway

Nearly 300 people attended the “Project Parkway” kick-off meeting on May 18.  "Project Parkway: Designing the Future" is a strategic planning initiative for the Parkway School District.  Meeting participants heard from district leaders and Mr. Grant Wiggins, a nationally known author and president of Authentic Education.

One of the first steps for the steering committee, which has been meeting since February, was to draft a new mission statement for the district.  Strategic planning and goal-setting will be based upon that mission.

A statement draft, which will undergo further study and revision, was presented and can be found along with meeting minutes, committee members and timeline of events on the “Project Parkway” Web site.

The next meeting of all three goal committee members is set for August 4, 2009, from 7-9 p.m. at Central High.

Goal committees will focus on the following areas:

1) Academic achievement and student engagement;
2) Student safety, healthy behaviors and positive relationships; and
3) High quality learning environments, technology and school finance.
