The designation comes from  the  Character Education Partnership in Washington D.C.

Schools that are selected must demonstrate that their focus on character development has had a positive impact on academic achievement, student behavior and school climate. The selected schools are then expected to serve as models for other schools, helping them to achieve the same results.

Lisa LunaThe Character Education Partnership will honor the 2012 National Schools of Character at the National Forum on Character Education, to be held in in Washington, DC. in November.   At the ceremony, Ross will receive a National School of Character Award, a banner for the school and a small grant to help with  future outreach efforts.

As part of the application process, Ross shared many structures in place that foster a caring class environment. "One that I am excited to watch each and every day is our Ross arrival and dismissal," says Luna.  "Every Ross student is greeted by several adults as they enter the school and by the teacher at the classroom door. During dismissal, our 5th grade students hold the hands of every kindergarten student as they board the school bus."
