Sandy Collins presented with the '2009 Outstanding Music Educator Award'

Sandy Collins, coordinator of fine arts with the Parkway School District, was recently presented the “2009 Outstanding Music Educator Award” from the St. Louis Suburban Music Educators Association (SLSMEA).

The St. Louis Suburban Music Educators Association deemed Collins the perfect candidate to receive the “2009 Outstanding Music Educator” award. Collins has been with the Parkway School District for twenty-three years, fourteen years in the elementary music classroom and nine years as a fine arts coordinator. 


She is highly respected by her staff and is an advocate, cheerleader, and protector of the music programs that energize and enrich Parkway students' lives.

The criteria for the “Outstanding Music Educator” award states that the recipient be dedicated to the musical welfare and growth of all students; is currently active as a music teacher or supervisor with at least 10 years of service; has a broad scope of experiences as a music educator; is continually seeking to expand experiences for all students; is a member of our state and local music educators associations; and has served as an officer in a professional organization.

The St. Louis Suburban Music Educators Association is the professional organization for music educators for member schools of the Cooperating School District. SLSMEA is affiliated with the Cooperating School District and MENC: The National Association for Music Education.

SLSMEA sponsors numerous festivals throughout the year which include Large Ensemble Music Festival for Bands, Orchestra, and Choirs; Solo and Ensemble Music Festival for Band, Orchestra, and Choir; and Honor Group Ensembles for Bands, Orchestras, and Choirs for high school, middle school, and elementary students.
