South High Student Wins Voice of Democracy Contest

Robert P. Clark, a senior at Parkway South High, finished first in the state for his audio essay, “Celebrating Our Veterans’ Service” in the Voice of Democracy contest, sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Ballwin. Clark’s recorded essay was based upon conversations he had with area veterans. As the state winner, Clark was awarded a $2,000 scholarship, an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. in March and the opportunity to compete for national scholarships. The first place national winner receives a $25,000 scholarship. The Voice of Democracy is an annual national audio essay contest that is designed to foster patriotism by giving high school students in grades 9 through 12 the opportunity to voice their opinion about their personal obligations as an American and address their responsibility to our country.
