Veterans Day

Numerous Parkway schools commemorated Veterans Day.  At Claymont Elementary School, each class read the story “America's White Table” by Margot Theis Raven.  The book describes an empty table set in honor of veterans, MIAs and POWs and explains how and why the tradition started and what the various items on the table represent.

A white table, as described in the book, was placed in the school’s front hallway in the morning as students arrived.  The small table was decorated with a white table cloth, rose, plate, lemon, salt, etc. and an empty chair. Students were very respectful and discussed the book and Veterans Day throughout the day.
