Parkway Announces New Board of Education Member

The Parkway School District Board of Education has announced that Don Cook will serve as a director on the board. Cook fills the seat vacated by Jennifer Ablan, who resigned from the board in August. Cook is the president and CEO of a telecommunications services and electrical, telecommunications and industrial distribution company. He has a doctorate in higher education administration and has lifetime Missouri elementary and secondary teaching certification, as well as Missouri elementary school principal certification. Cook, whose two children are graduates of Parkway South High School, has been very active in the district. He has served as a band booster, technology planning committee member, career day speaker, and currently works with the Cub Scouts at Barretts Elementary School. He is also active in other community activities, currently serving on the foundation board of Lincoln University located in Jefferson City, Mo. Regarding his selection for Parkway's Board of Education, Cook said, "One of the things I am excited about is the way that Parkway is so concerned about students being healthy, responsible and caring. This translates from the administration to the teachers, who care not just about test scores, but about the entire child." The board selected Cook after an open application process. Board President Kelley Garbero called Cook both capable and inspiring. "We interviewed four outstanding applicants and are grateful for their interest in serving. We look forward to working with Don to continue to provide the very best public education to the children of Parkway," she said. Cook will serve on the board until April 5, 2005. At that time, the seat will come up for election. He joins President Kelley Garbero, Vice President Michael Beasley and Directors Linda Bell, Dee Mogerman, Monty Montgomery and Karen O'Brien.
