Sick Leave

All employees earn sick leave equal to the length of the scheduled workday, at the rate of ten (10) days per year for a twelve (12) month employee or prorated for a less-than-twelve (12) month employee, and not to exceed eighty (80) hours per year, due to illness or quarantining of employees. If an employee terminates his/her employment before completing the school term and has taken more days of sick leave with pay than he/she has earned, an adjustment will be made in the final paycheck in an amount to reimburse the District the number of sick leave days paid for in excess of the number of months worked. Through the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave are available. Benefits are provided during this period as listed under Health Insurance and Life Insurance above. Employees accrue sick leave but are not eligible to use the accrued days until they have been employed 90 calendar days. Sick leave can be accumulated to the number of working days in the employees work year, not to exceed 260 days or 2080 hours with the exception of bus drivers and dietary aides who may accumulate 150 days. Employees can use ten days paid sick leave for an illness in the immediate family if they are wholly dependent upon the employee. Absences used for this purpose will be reduced from the employee's sick leave.
