Facilities

2011 Summer Projects

The 2010-2011 school year was a record year for Parkway Schools and the Facilities Division.  The division completed over $26.3 million of work district wide, making it our biggest construction year ever (with the exception of building a new school).  Ranging from renovations to capital improvements to site improvements, Facilities was responsible for a myriad of different projects – all completed on time for a successful start of the 2011-2012 school year.

South High - Science Addition & Renovations

A new 3-story science addition was added to the existing South High School building this summer.  The new Science Laboratory Building contains eight lab classrooms and four prep rooms, comprising approximately 16,000 square feet with a 20-foot tall open space below the second floor to allow for vehicle and pedestrian traffic.  These lab classrooms include laboratory counters, fume hoods, laboratory equipment such as bio safety cabinets, ice makers, glass washers, thermo cycles, refrigerators, Smart Boards, etc.  The project also included renovations of the current science wing on the third floor of the existing building, ceiling work on the second floor, and a 1,200 square foot expansion of the Commons Area.  Landscaping, tree removal, asphalt paving, concrete sidewalks, and a wood screen fenced dumpster pad will be part of the finishing touches to the exterior of the new addition.

This project was funded through the 2008 Capital Improvement Program.

Northeast Middle - Performance Contract for Energy Conservation & Facility Improvement Projects

NEM - Old Chiller NEM - New Chiller

Energy conservation and facility improvements that have been underway at Northeast Middle since last summer (2010) were completed this summer.  This project included replacing the chiller and its associated pumps, installing a fire sprinkler system, replacing the HVAC systems, ceilings, and lights in the 200, 300, and 400 wings, replacing the HVAC systems that serve the cafeteria and main gym areas, and replacing the HVAC systems, ceilings, and lights in the 500 wing.  This portion of the project was funded by the 2008 Bond Issue.  The project also required that a large asbestos abatement be performed in the science classroom area of Northeast Middle.  As a consequence of the asbestos abatement work, some architectural, mechanical, and electrical systems had to be removed and reinstalled or repaired upon completion of the abatement work.

This part of the project was funded through the 2008 Capital Improvement Program.
