Dr. Marty Wins Innovator Award
Superintendent Keith Marty has won a St. Louis Business Journal 2015 Innovation Award!
Dr. Marty is among only 16 winners in the St. Louis area and the only individual winner in the Education category.
Dr. Marty was nominated for his support of the Spark! Incubator program for student entrepreneurs. See the full list of winners here:http://bit.ly/1MyNe0J
Parkway sought to create a program that would have a profound impact on the St. Louis entrepreneurial ecosystem and became the first school district in the state of Missouri to explore the development and implementation of a start-up incubator at the high school level. Spark! has received much attention and mentor support from the St. Louis business community.
The Spark! Incubator is comprised of 20 students from Parkway Central, Parkway North, Parkway South and Parkway West. Since the student entrepreneurs began this journey in August 2014, four companies have registered as LLCs and four are pending LLCs. One company has worked with strategic partners to develop two working prototypes of their business idea. Eight business websites have been launched and students have participated in promotional events to reach their target markets. Learn more about the Spark! Incubator at www.parkwayspark.com
The St. Louis Business Journal Innovation awards honor a company and an individual in each of nine categories. What the honorees have in common is that they are breaking through the static barrier of the usual to create something unique in hopes of helping people. How, exactly, they are improving lives will be included in a profile in the April 17 issue of the Business Journal.
