Parkway e-News Story

Help Parkway Win $250,000 for Solar Energy!

With your continued support, Parkway students can win $250,000 to help us become the first completely solar school district in the Midwest, if not the country!

In November, students from North High entered their idea in the Pepsi Refresh Project, a nationwide search for people, businesses, and non-profits with ideas that will have a positive impact on their communities. At the end of the month, they didn't win, but had risen to 6th place out of several hundred entries nationwide!

We still have a great chance to win, as the project has been re-entered for December! Please consider voting and/or sharing with your network of friends the following three ways to vote:

1.  Text 104078 to PEPSI (73774) (no additional charges apply)
2.  Vote two ways through our coalition of projects at www.my10votes.com.
To get started, choose the "click here" in the first paragraph and it will bring up all 10 projects. Click on one "vote for this idea" icon, then SIGN IN to the Pepsi website or Facebook to vote for all 10 projects.  (This results in even more votes automatically from the other coalition members!)

Voting is available throughout December. Each day you can vote using ALL of the methods listed above.

If Parkway's proposal wins, the money would be used to seek matching grants and donations. All of the $250,000 would be invested in solar power panels, interface systems and monitoring hardware.

Parkway would then take the money saved on power and use it to gain additional matching grants and donations year after year. Reinvestment in further solar expansion will continue until the district is completely solar and geothermal.

Contact science teacher Russ Barton with any questions or see the North Nigh Envirothon website at http://www.parkwaysolar.org. The site contains several student videos with more details about the project and solar energy in Parkway.
