Parkway to Kick Off Fifteenth Year With OASIS - More Tutors Needed

This fall, the Parkway OASIS program will begin its 15th year. The OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring Program matches trained older adult volunteers with students mainly in grades K-3 who need help developing reading and language skills. Tutors work with their student about one hour a week at the school, and do not need any prior teaching experience. The program started in Parkway in the fall of 1992 with 38 tutors, and by the end of that year, 79 tutors were helping Parkway students develop reading and language skills. At a banquet in May, Parkway thanked about 200 tutors who participated in this year's program. More tutors are needed for the 2006--2007 school year. For information on how to become a tutor, please call Barb Clark at (314) 415-8121.
