Parkway e-News Story

From the Superintendent...

Dear Parents and Community Partners:

Adjusted school starting and ending times go into effect on Monday, October 17. If you use district transportation, you should have or will be receiving a notice from the Transportation Department about any changes to your child’s morning pick-up times. I am sorry for this change, as I know it requires personal schedule adjustments. However, I simply could not allow nearly a third of our students to continue getting to school or home late each day. Thank you for your understanding and support.

I want to thank those parents who attended our first two boundary change meetings at Craig and McKelvey. Two more meetings are planned. I am hopeful that the board of education will be prepared to approve the recommended boundary changes at their November 2 meeting.

You may have heard about local communities holding meetings on the present dangers for teenagers concerning heroin and prescription painkiller use. Parkway is teaming up with the St. Louis County Police Department and other community organizations for a Town Hall meeting at 7 p.m. on October 24, at Parkway Central High School. I encourage you to attend to get information from experts and those closest to this growing problem. The meeting is open to our entire community.

We had a marvelous turnout of community members at our September 17 Project Parkway meeting. We invite everyone who attended and new participants to the next Project Parkway meeting on November 14. We will be sharing significant data on how our students are performing academically and on current Project Parkway goals.

I continue to be very impressed with the community and parent support of our schools. Our schools welcome your involvement should you have the time to volunteer or offer your services and talents to our teachers and classrooms.

I hope you will follow Parkway in ways that are most convenient for you. If you use Twitter as a communication tool, you might be interested in following me on Twitter at www.twitter.com/ParkwaySupt.
