Celebrating a Very Good Year!

Recognized for having some of America’s best high schools, having “what parents want,” students with perfect ACT scores and many more distinctions, Parkway schools, students and staff have a lot of things to celebrate from the 2012-13 school year! Check out the list of accomplishments and find links to some of the year’s biggest news stories below.

  • America’s Best High Schools – Parkway Central, North, South and West high schools made it to Newsweek Magazine’s rankings of America’s Best High Schools. In addition, South High was ranked ninth in Missouri and received a silver medal in the national U.S. News & World Report America's Best High Schools ranking. All four Parkway high schools exceeded U.S. News’ college readiness index standards.

  • Parkway has “What Parents Want” - Parkway is one of only 29 of 523 Missouri school districts receiving national recognition from SchoolMatch, a firm specializing in rating K-12 schools across the country.

  • Perfect ACT scores – Senior Bradley Gleason of South High and junior Zachary Heiman of Central High scored a perfect 36 – the highest possible score – on the ACT college admissions and placement exam.

  • National Merit Finalists – Twenty-eight Parkway students were named semifinalists through the National Merit Scholarship Program and 27 went on to become finalists. 

  • AP Honor Roll – Parkway was one of 539 schools districts in the U.S. and Canada honored by the College Board with placement on the 3rd Annual AP District Honor Roll.

  •  Challenging High SchoolWest High was ranked as one of the Most Challenging High Schools in the country according to The Washington Post.

  • Missouri State Champions  Three high school students won individual state championships in swimming and track, and eight students won relays in three swimming events.

  • Class of 2013 Scholarship Awards – Parkway graduated 1,500 seniors who earned more than $30 million in scholarship awards.

  • Top Performing District - Parkway ranked in the top 3 percent of Missouri districts, scoring 98.2 percent on the new state rating system.

  • Science STARS – Fourteen students representing all four Parkway high schools were selected for the Students and Teachers as Research Scientists (STARS) summer program at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL). The program pairs students with top research mentors from UMSL, the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, Saint Louis University and Washington University in St. Louis.

  • Energy Leader - Parkway joined EPA's list of ENERGY STAR Leaders, an elite group of organizations that have improved energy efficiency across entire portfolios of commercial buildings.

  • "Special" Graduates - All seven graduating seniors who are in the deaf/hard of hearing program at Parkway West High were accepted to and are planning to attend NTID/RIT (National Technical Institute for the Deaf at Rochester Institute of Technology in New York.).

  • Excellence in Financial Reporting – For the 11th straight year, Parkway has earned a Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Association of School Business Officials International.
