Schools of Character

Three Parkway elementary schools have recently been recognized for work in Character Education

  • Oak Brook Elementary - 2015 National School of Character
  • Bellerive Elementary - National Leader in Me Lighthouse School
  • Craig Elementary - 2015 Champions for Character award

We are thrilled to announce that Oak Brook Elementary was just named a 2015 National School of Character by Character.org! Oak Brook has demonstrated its use of character development to drive positive impacts in academics, student behavior, and the school’s climate. Since its inception, Character.org has awarded over 300 schools with the distinction of a National School of Character. Oak Brook will hold its designation of National School of Character for five years and be showcased at their National Conference in October.

Bellerive Elementary announced today the school has been named as a Leader in Me Lighthouse School by Franklin Covey Co. Bellerive celebrated at a school assembly this morning with students, families and community members. This recognition comes because the school has achieved outstanding results in school and student outcomes, by implementing The Leader in Me process. It teaches 21st century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment, based on the idea that every child can be a leader.

Craig Elementary was selected as the 2015 Elementary Champions for Character winner. Cardinals Care, in cooperation with CharacterPlus, sponsors Champions for Character. The award program honors three schools in the area that have a school-wide ethos of service learning. One elementary, middle and high school are selected in the metro area. At Craig, each grade level has a theme for their service learning work that was selected to align with grade level curriculum and to be developmentally appropriate.
