Veterans Called to Service Again! Social Studies Collecting Artifacts

You can help make history come alive and honor your sacrifice or that of a loved one by donating war artifacts to Parkway School District’s social studies department’s “War & Patriotism: Honoring the Memories of U.S. Veterans” project.
Parkway is soliciting donations of items that will be used to create “hands on history” artifact kits from World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The traveling trunks will bring a personal perspective and deeper appreciation for the life and times of the people who have fought for freedom and democracy around the world to today’s ninth grade U.S. History students.

Examples of items accepted include: Uniform pants, shirts, hats, knee pads, elbow pads, belts, jackets, canteens, camelbacks, masks, helmets, goggles, dog tags, ear plugs, first aid/ammo pouches, boots, socks, rain gear, ponchos, gloves, long johns, rucksacks, duffle bags, K Rations/C Rations/MREs, field manuals, “trench art,” letters or journals, newspapers/clippings, Orders of the Day, and photographs. No weapons please.

To donate, or for more information, contact Liz Morrison, Parkway social studies curriculum coordinator, at (314) 415-7032.
