Parkway to Promote Internet Safety Awareness in 2007-08
Internet use by young people is on the rise, and so are concerns about what that means for students' safety and security. Parkway will address this topic in its curriculum and a variety of forums and presentations this year, targeted to parents, students and staff.
Various speakers on the subject include: Lindsay Casmaer, recently named Miss Missouri and herself a victim of a cyber crime; Lieutenant Joe Laramie of the Internet Crimes Against Children’s (ICAC) task force; Glenn Berry of the Missouri Center for Safe Schools; and Nancy George of the St. Louis Regional Professional Development Center. Beginning in September, these speakers will present in Parkway schools and the community.
One of the first meetings will be for parents at South High, Southwest Middle, Sorrento Springs, and Wren Hollow Elementary. The presentation is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, in the South High Theater, 801 Hanna Road in Manchester.
The first meetings of Parkway’s Area Advisory groups will also address the topic on Thursday, Sept. 27. The Central/North meeting will be held at North High, 12860 Fee Fee Road, from 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. Residents of the South/West attendance area will meet from 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m. at West High, 14653 Clayton Road. These meetings are open; however, advance reservations would be appreciated by calling (314) 415-8029.
