Eight Parkway Students Honored for STARS Research

Eight Parkway students recently won awards for Excellence in Research from the 2006 Pfizer-Solutia Students as Research Scientists (STARS) program. Hang Gao, Central High; Haoran Li, West High; Nilu Rath, Albert Zheng and Amit Shintre, North High; and Jing Xue, Jessicah Hard and Pengchang Wang, South High were among 15 Parkway students and 48 other St. Louis area students who were accepted into this six-week intensive summer research program at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL). The STARS program pairs students and teachers with research mentors from UMSL, Saint Louis University, Washington University and the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, to experience various aspects of the scientific enterprise. To complete the program, each student must present a scholarly paper based on their research findings. All 63 research papers were assigned to a research category depending on the student's area of study.
