Parkway to Host Civil War Reenactment May 4-5

One hundred forty-five years after the start of the Civil War, Parkway eighth graders will enhance their understanding of the life of Civil War soldiers and civilians at a two-day Civil War Encampment on May 4 and 5 at the Instructional Services Center, 12657 Fee Fee Road. Reenactors from across the state will demonstrate Union and Confederate artillery and infantry, as well as teach about refugees, medicine and women's work. Community members and reenactors Craig and Dee Straton have volunteered their time to contact and bring close to 25 reenactors to the event. The full-costumed reenactors will demonstrate Civil War era weapons and dances. The encampment will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days for the eighth graders, and will be open to the public from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on May 4.
