Cutting-Edge Summer Math Academy Charts New Territory

This summer, 33 teachers and 173 middle school students from Parkway, St. Louis Public Schools and area private schools are taking part in an exciting partnership to “de-mystify” mathematics and transform teaching strategies.*****

The program is made possible through a three-year $1.5 million grant from the U. S. Department of Education, and involves faculty from Maryville University and several nationally known professional consultants.

The “Mathematicians in Residence” grant provides a three-week summer program of intensive professional development, mentoring and coaching for teachers who then apply their new-found knowledge in classrooms with diverse groups of students. The academy is taking place at Parkway’s Southwest Middle School and ends July 3. For more information, go to Parkway’s news page at
