Parkway Students to Perform with National High School Orchestra
Three Parkway students have been selected to perform with the National High School Honors Orchestra in February. Raymond Chen and Max Geissler, from Parkway Central High, and Monica Godbee from Parkway North High, will join 120 musicians from around the country. *****The orchestra will be conducted by Jung-Ho Pak of the San Diego Chamber Orchestra. Chen plays the violin. Godbee and Geissler play the cello.
High school juniors and seniors are eligible to audition for the orchestra. Students must apply first, submitting an audition tape or CD of required literature and three minutes from literature of their own choosing. From a field of 30 students per state, separate audition committees for strings, winds, and percussion select the final 120 orchestra students. In 2005, only three students from Missouri were chosen to participate in this event.
The National High School Honors Orchestra is sponsored by the American Strings Teachers Association (ASTA). The students will rehearse and perform Feb. 28 - March 1, 2008, during the national ASTA conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
