Get the Latest Prop "R" News

Parkway is publishing a special e-newsletter designed to let the community know about the latest news on Prop R proposals and initiatives as they are being developed. Since December, for instance, the district has defined several initiatives and begun discussions with the board of education on a proposed 2007-08 budget. If you would like to sign up for "R" News (in addition to the monthly eNews), go to the Parkway web site at and click on the eNews icon, then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "Update your subscriber profile." At the bottom of your profile page, check the box marked Prop R Network. As part of the "R" News Network, you'll also receive invitations to events where you will receive updates and have opportunities to share your thoughts about Parkway's progress in "Renewing the Parkway Promise" of academic excellence.

Online Curriculum Available for all Grade Levels

Parkway has exciting news regarding its curriculum. Starting this year, curriculum guides for each elementary grade level and each middle and high school course will be made available for parents to view online. These new online guides will replace the old frameworks and parent guides published by the district. You will be able to access the curriculum your child is learning, view vocabulary related to the subject and find guiding questions for each unit. Science, social studies, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), gifted and personal finance guides are now available. Parkway Announces the 2007 Teachers of the Year

Each year, Parkway teachers from all grade levels nominate their peers for teachers of the year based on merit. One teacher is chosen from each participating school. Parkway is pleased to honor the following teachers in 2007 for their dedication, leadership and commitment to excellence: Christine West, Barretts; Elaine Gifford, Bellerive; Sylvia Bronner, Carman Trails; Sandra Livergood, Craig; Kitty Brown, Green Trails; Jan Fettig, Hanna Woods; Jami DeBosch, Henry; Elsie Rafferty, Highcroft Ridge; Lindsay Cosgrove, Mason Ridge; Paula Seim, McKelvey; Keri Clements, Oak Brook; Lindsey Griffith, Pierremont; Chris Flaton, River Bend; Cari McDougal, Ross; Heather Hackmann, Sorrento Springs; Gayle Elzinga, Central Middle; Claire Gallo, Northeast Middle; Debbie Schneider, South Middle; Pam Dudley, Southwest Middle; Mary Byrd, West Middle; Cathy Dobkin, Central High; Molly McCormac, Fern Ridge High; Merle Singer, North High; Cindy Harrison, South High; and Susan Dean, West High. A districtwide selection committee comprised of former teachers of the year and other district teachers will select an elementary, middle and high school teacher of the year as well as a teacher to represent the district in the Missouri 2006-07 Teacher of the Year competition. The committee will review extensive nomination materials submitted by each school for its nominee and will conduct personal interviews with the finalists prior to reaching a decision later in February. All Parkway Teachers of the Year will be honored at the March 14 board of education meeting and at Appreciation Evening on April 30.

Five Candidates File for Parkway Board of Education

Five candidates have filed for two, three-year term director positions and one, one-year term director position on the Parkway School District Board of Education. The election is Tuesday, April 3, 2007. The candidates, in order of filing and as their name will appear on the ballot, are: Three-year Term (two positions) W. Dudley McCarter Brett Turner Jay Davis One-year Term (one position) Michael D. Beasley Monty Montgomery The three current board of education members whose positions are open for election on April 3 are Michael D. Beasley, Monty Montgomery and W. Dudley McCarter.
