Information about November Ballot Issue

The Parkway Board of Education unanimously approved a recommendation to place a 37-cent tax increase referendum on the November 7 ballot. The measure would allow the district to lower class sizes, improve academic achievement and update textbooks, technology and classroom equipment. Since residential taxes are calculated on 19 percent of a home's assessed value (not the market value), the cost of the tax rate increase to the owner of a home valued at $200,000 would be $140.60 per year - about $12 a month. Reminder - School Starts August 17

The first day of school is Thursday, August 17. Parkway's "Back 2 School News" publication will be mailed to students' homes this week. This publication features the 2006-2007 school district calendar, important phone numbers and information on transportation, immunizations, early childhood and many other programs and services in Parkway.

Bus Schedules Now Available

This week, the Parkway Transportation Department will mail bus stop schedules for all students. The information will include the child's name, school, bus run number, bus stop location and morning and afternoon pickup time, and whether or not the student is eligible to ride the bus. This year, bus route information will also be available online through Versatrans. Information about accessing bus routes on Versatrans will be available after September 4.

Parkway Board Appoints New Director

W. Dudley McCarter is Parkway's newest board director. He fills the seat vacated by Karen O'Brien, who resigned from the board in June. McCarter is an attorney with a local law firm. He has a bachelor's degree from Knox College and a law degree from the University of Missouri - Columbia. He is a former president of the Missouri Bar Association and former chair of the Children's Trust Fund of Missouri. McCarter, whose three children attend Parkway schools, has lived in the Parkway community for over 25 years. McCarter will be officially sworn in at the August 9 board of education meeting and will serve on the board until April 3, 2007. At that time, the seat will come up for election. McCarter joins president Monty Montgomery, vice president Dee Mogerman and directors Mike Beasley, Helen Casteel, Kelley Garbero and Greg Powers.
