Social Studies GOALS FOR GRADUATES IN SOCIAL STUDIES
The Parkway School District's goals for graduates in Social Studies are based on the Missouri Show-Me Standards, in performance and in content knowledge.
In performance, students in the Parkway School District will:
- Acquire the knowledge and skills to gather, analyze and apply information and ideas
- Acquire the knowledge and skills to communicate effectively within and beyond the classroom
- Acquire the knowledge and skills to recognize and solve problems
- Acquire the knowledge and skills to make decisions and act as responsible members of society
In Social Studies, students in the Parkway School District will acquire a solid foundation in the content area of social studies which includes knowledge of:
- Principles expressed in the documents shaping the constitutional democracy of the United States
- Continuity and change in the history of Missouri, the United States and the world
- Principles and processes of governance systems
- Economic concepts (including productivity and market systems) and principles (including the laws of supply and demand)
- The major elements of geographical study and analysis (such as relative and absolute location, place, movement and regions) and their relationship to changes in society and environment
- Relationships of the individual and groups to institutions and cultural traditions
- The use of tools social science inquiry (such as surveys, statistics, maps and documents)
