Mathematics

“You understand how to think mathematically when you are resourceful, flexible, and efficient in your ability to deal with new problems in mathematics.”

Alan Schoenfeld, 1985
Mathematical Problem Solving

In order to accomplish Parkway's Mission and Vision, students need to think mathematically. Parkway's Mathematics Vision articulates exactly what it means to do mathematics and think mathematically - which is the focus of our K-12 curriculum.  Students must encounter problem situations that require reasoning, computation, and communication. We regularly study the most efficient methods for reaching solutions, but also realize that examining different solution methods helps develop more creative problem solving skills.  We help students become thoughtful mathematicians who can articulate their thinking and understand how to apply mathematics in any situation.  Parkway’s mathematics curricula at each grade level is aligned with state standards (including the Common Core State Standards).
