This program helps all students understand the differences, unique capabilities and challenges that fellow students may experience, and yet understand how much they all have in common! Volunteers are needed to help plan this wonderful day and help coordinate hands-on activities, speakers, etc.
Committee Chair: Jill Moss
Are you creative? Do you love art? If so, we need your talents. Volunteers will work with the committee chairperson to help plan, design and implement two to three art displays throughout the school year.

Parents assist with planting, weeding, mulching and other projects to spruce up the school grounds. Only a few hours twice a year (fall and spring).
Block Homes and Safety Network
Committee Chair: Karen Atkinson
Parents assist with checking first aid kits are up to date, and safety supplies locations and procedures are communicated with school staff. Communicate with block home parents and with Parkway security for meetings three to four times per school year.
Book Fair - Fall November 12-16, 2012

The Scholastic Book Fair takes place the week of fall Parent/Teacher conferences. Parent volunteers work with Miss Roe to help students locate books and write up book orders. The funds raised are used by Miss Roe for the library.

Claymont Movie Night April 26, 2013

Volunteers are needed to chair committees, help with games, entertainment, food and baskets. This is a fun and flexible event – you can help out for just an hour or more!

Be a part of Claymont’s very own school newspaper! Volunteers have a choice of many different opportunities based on interest and availability. Parent editors will meet once a week to assist the student “staff” with their articles and editing (about an hour per week). The Sales team helps the students make posters, produce announcements and sell the paper three mornings a quarter (1/2 hour each day). If you prefer to remain “behind the scenes,” we always need help with document preparation, contacting staff members and other newsroom jobs.

Volunteers are needed to staff the nurse’s office while she fulfills obligations in other areas of the school. Volunteers usually work two to three times a month for 60 to 90 minutes each time. We ask that volunteers take Parkway’s first aid /CPR course at no cost.

Have you ever said, “If you need any help, just give me a call?” If so, this committee is for you! Volunteers receive a phone call with time/date. If it works out for your schedule, we'd love to have you volunteer. It doesn't commit you to anything specific, but if you work better at the last minute than scheduling ahead, this might be the opportunity for you. Some fun done-in-a- day projects have included book binding, organizing science kits/assisting with experiment set up and updating the Claymont Cares board with monthly service projects.
Fifth Grade Celebration May 2013

This committee for fifth grade parents organizes the celebratory events for the fifth graders over a four- to five-day period that includes a variety of special activities such as one or more field trips, a fifth-grade-only luncheon, baby picture contest and much more.
Fun and Fitness Day October 5, 2012 (Rain dates: Oct. 12 and 19)

Volunteers are needed to assist as student groups participate in an afternoon of organized activities focusing on teamwork, fitness and cooperation for all students. Volunteers will assist with set-up, activities and clean up. A large number of volunteers are needed.
Generation to Generation
Committee Chair: Tanya DeNardi
This program involves a group of senior volunteers who come to Claymont on Tuesday mornings to work with the kindergarten, first and second grade classrooms. Volunteers are needed to take an assigned Tuesday each month to be at Claymont to greet the volunteers at 9 am and be there when they leave the school at 10 am.

School PTO representatives receive regular updates and attend several luncheon meetings and/or evening Legislative Forums per year regarding legislative policy issues affecting Parkway. There are opportunities for advocacy; minutes are emailed and posted on Web site. PTO reps are asked to report on issues to/from their PTOs.
Kids Voting November 6, 2012

Kids Voting is a national non-partisan, non-profit program in which students in grades K-12 study special Kids Voting civics activities and learn the importance of voting. On Election Day, the students cast ballots on the same candidates and some issues for which their parents vote. Volunteers are needed to help the committee chair with kids voting activities. (Held only on national election years)

Library volunteers check out books to students, help locate books and other materials, file books and help with final inventory at the end of the school year. Each volunteer helps one morning or afternoon every other week. Morning hours are 9 am-noon and afternoon hours are 12:45-3:30 pm. Hours are flexible. No previous experience is necessary. Miss Roe will train you on the job.
PACCD (PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES)

Parkway parents committed to securing quality education for students with special needs. General meetings are held monthly. Representatives meet regularly with district administrators to discuss issues pertaining to children with disabilities.
Parent Night Out (Trivia Night) February 2, 2013

This popular social event for adults will need many volunteers to help plan and run the trivia night, silent auction and classroom art event. You can sign up to be on the planning committee or just help out that evening.

Volunteers are needed to solicit area businesses for donations and prepare items for the Silent Auction during the trivia night. Clerical help also is appreciated.
Picture Day September 18, 2012

Parents are needed on picture day to escort children from their classrooms, check envelopes, and help with the general appearance of the student.

Red Ribbon Week is a celebration for schools across the nation to promote Drug-Free Kids. Volunteers are needed to help carry out Claymont’s participation in the week.
Science Celebration January/February 2012
Committee Chair: Sheila Waddell and Madeline Legler
During this event, students display science projects and scientists and volunteers from the community present hands on demonstrations. The Claymont Science Celebration is coordinated with the Parkway Science Fair and the Greater St. Louis Fair. Volunteers are needed to work with teachers to help plan and run this event.

This committee provides meals for teachers on conference nights and snacks during several staff meetings and on holidays. There will be a meeting in early September to sign up for these events throughout the year. Volunteers help with set-up and provide and/or cook food items.
Talent Show March 2013

The show must go on! We need people to help with this school-wide evening Talent Show which showcases our kids’ many talents. Volunteers help with event planning, auditions, and running the show. Tryout dates to be announced.
Trunk or Treat October 26, 2012
Committee Chair: Tanya DeNardi
Volunteers are needed to help serve on the planning committee of this fun family event, which is complete with costumes, trick or treating, and dancing. Volunteers are also needed to set up, clean up and work the night of the event. We are looking for a co-chair or assistant to learn the ropes of this event and be willing to take it on in the next year or two.

Volunteers are needed to assist the PE teachers with measuring weights and heights of each student. Volunteers will be needed for the following morning and/or afternoon shifts (TBD).

Do you love to take pictures? Do you scrapbook? Then this is the committee for you! Volunteers are needed to take pictures of school events and activities. Volunteers also will design a yearbook for the 2012-2013 school year. Activities include taking pictures at parties, field trips, school events, special awards, lunch, recess, snap shots, etc. Yearbook design will need volunteers for sorting pictures, organizing pictures of events, designing pages, cutting, pasting, proofing, editing and being creative! Time commitment is flexible. We will meet monthly.
