Ms. Watson taught a lesson designed to assist seniors with the transition from using high school libraries to using college libraries. The lesson consists of a self-assessment that allows students to reflect on their comfort level with skills identified by academic librarians as necessary to success at the collegiate level as well as instruction on key differences. Seniors also have the opportunity to do a guided exploration of the library of the university they plan to attend via the academic library’s Web site.

Mr. Banta’s and Mr. Goldenberg’s American History classes used the library to conduct research on the key historical figures of the Progressive movement and then represent their learning by pretending they are these historical figures who have been transported into the future to solve a modern problem facing the country today, such as Global Warming. Students participated in a debate/press conference, where they were asked questions about these issues. Other students served the supporting roles of press agent, reporter or historian.

Ms. Dolan showed Mr. Sellers how to use Google Earth to help students visualize the bridges along the Mississippi River for his History of St. Louis class.

Ice Cream Social
On August 31, the Central High staff were invited to an Ice Cream Social in the library.
Faculty and staff had fun creating sundaes, chatting with other staff, and meeting the new members of the library staff: Brigid Dolan, librarian, and Pam McHardy, library secretary.
The names of all teachers who checked out a book at the Ice Cream Social were entered into a drawing for a Barnes and Noble gift card. The winner was Kelly Northcott!
Teachers were also encouraged to write a book review in the form of a tweet. The names of teachers who submitted a tweet review were also entered in a drawing for a Barnes and Noble gift card. The winner was Jen Meyer! These tweet reviews are now on display in the library.
