 This unit focuses on the operation of multiplication and develops ideas about the meaning of operations with whole numbers, the development of computational fluency, the structure of place value and the base-ten number system, and generalizations about numbers and operations.

Essential Questions:

  • What is the best way to break these numbers apart in order to compute them mentally?
  • Do I need a pencil and calculator, or can I figure it out in my head?
